A quick and dirty recipe to get porridge on the table in front of hungry mouths without compromising taste or quality.
My wife showed me this recipe. I was always amazed at how fast she could whip up bowls of porridge for our kids in the morning.
Most recipes often call for a longer simmer. Some up to 20 minutes and while I tested some of these longer methods the kids would get restless waiting for something to eat – not acceptable in the early hours of the weekday mornings.
Maintaining a rolling boil and a good water to oats ratio makes this porridge work. It’s slightly more woody than a long cooked porridge, but my family seems to find this especially delicious.
Porridge is a great morning starter. It keeps you full for a good portion of the morning, is high in fiber and gives you a slow burning energy that helps you tackle the day ahead of you.
